We stand on a very dangerous precipice for trove. The negativity of vocal players attempting to direct the game into an elitist playground is going to end badly. Every day in global and on the forums I see numerous posts about how I had to grind this or that and it is unfair that anyone should get something I had to "work" to receive. This is a game that has been accessible (i.e. EVERYONE can do EVERYTHING) from the beginning. The negativity that the vocal minority of the player base is constantly expressing that any changes to the game made to allow other players to do something they might have not been able to do before is just becoming obnoxious.
I truly fear that this vocal minority will destroy the budding community that Trove has been based on. Trove is about fun. It is a voxel based game with much humor and no visions of grandeur. If you feel that you have to "work" at anything in this game, you are playing the wrong game. If you do not enjoy doing things in Trove, then you are playing the wrong game. If you feel that anything in this game is P2W, then you are playing the wrong game.
There is no winning in Trove, other than in the PVP arenas. Then it simply winning a match. If Trion allows players to buy an item of the same quality that you can gain in game to help offset costs of supporting the game, then lets support them in it! If you don't choose to pay for the items, that's fine in every respect, but quit trying to belittle anyone who might want to support the game financially as inept.
If you want to feel bad about changes to the game, here top some of these.
10 million blocks destroyed .. by hand .. solo. Now we have a bull dozer, 3 classes that can destroy blocks with abilities, a bomb tome, and an arena survey tool that will wipe out entire sections of a Biome.
Destroyed 6 entire biomes to create an ocean. Now there are Sea of Tranquility Biomes that you can build instantly.
Collected every recipe. This was back when I might have a stack of 100 of a single recipe and never get the "ONE" recipe I needed. Now you get a recipe, click and one you don't have you now do.
The thing is, these are all POSITIVE changes to the game! I would never think that we should not get a better game just because I chose to have fun doing things in the game in a specific way! We, as a community, need to support the game and not try to throttle it. If you want to see what happens to a game and a community when a vocal minority gain control, please go read a forum for a game called *ver*uest. A vocal minority from the community gained the developers ear a couple years into the game. They complained that the way they did things when the game started was being bypassed by newer players. New players just wanted to enjoy the game and the content with their friends. Roadblocks were put into place that over the years caused new players to stop trying. The shadow of the game that now exists is still enjoyed by a very small minority that pushed for the game to be what they desired it to me. The other millions of players who tried to enjoy the game (and a wonderful game it is) over the years were run off.
We cannot let our actions as a community hurt the game. The community voice is only as valid as those who express their ideas. If the only ideas expressed are negative ones without any positive criticisms or valid reasoning behind the opinions, then we will simply sink our own ship.
If there are changes you do not like in the game, please express those ideas with reasons behind your desired actions other than you didn't do it that way or it might allow someone else to enjoy the game (and you don't want them to enjoy it). Give positive criticisms about the ideas instead of just ranting against change for changes sake. Please, above all, quit trying to force Trove into your idea of what the game should be. This post might seem that I am trying to force players into my point of view, and in some regards that is true. My view, however, is that we as players should enjoy the game and stop trying to ruin others enjoyment for personal gain.
